You may all remember Lewis Hamilton's misfortune in Saturday's qualifying. The seven-time world champion was eliminated in Q1, but he came back from last place to finish fourth in the race.
Although the team's preliminary simulations showed only sixth place as the best possible, Hamilton proved otherwise, and according to his (former) boss, had he not had such misfortune in qualifying, victory would have been within his grasp as well:
"I always try to look at events impartially, with an analytical eye, and in my opinion, if that buoy hadn't come his way in an unfortunate way and if he had finished higher in qualifying, then Lewis would have been fighting for victory. However, it doesn't leave any imprint on me, because we have achieved so many victories and successes together that what happened, or what didn't happen, doesn't affect our relationship in any way.
But you have to give him what he deserves: he raced as world champion in Abu Dhabi. Starting from 16th place, he patiently and tactically worked his way up to fourth, finishing ahead of the Red Bulls. For me, that's a world champion performance, there's no question about it!" - praised his driver Toto Wolff one last time as team principal.
