It's very rare for someone to lead the F1 drivers' championship (and by a massive margin) while only third in the constructors' standings.
With McLaren's return and Scuderia Ferrari's strong performance, the end of the 2024 season is becoming increasingly exciting. Max Verstappen's world championship title isn't in jeopardy yet, but with another win for Lando Norris and a possible zero points for Red Bull Racing, the two sides could come closer to the point where it could be considered a real competition.
In the meantime, the Dutchman is racing towards another success, which wouldn't just be special because it would be another title defense. Indeed, his team currently sits third in the Constructors' Championship, and if Verstappen manages to win the title, he could equal a 41-year-old record, that of Nelson Piquet, who became world champion in 1983 driving a car belonging to a team that finished third in the Constructors' Championship. After the dominance of previous seasons, this is particularly interesting to write about, but this is exactly the situation at the moment.
