Sainz: "My father wanted me to choose Audi"

Sainz : « Mon père voulait que je choisisse Audi »

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

There was some debate between the elder and younger Carlos Sainz regarding which option would be the best direction for Carlos Sainz Jr. Ultimately, the younger Sainz listened to his instincts and stated that he did not regret his decision.

In fact, even Alpine would have given him a chance, but he apparently chose the weakest option of all:

“My dream of joining Red Bull or maybe Mercedes didn’t come true. After that, I had to choose between Audi, Alpine, and Williams. After visiting the teams, the factories, and talking to everyone, an intuition immediately told me: go to Williams, they want to achieve a better future. And when not only my head, but also my heart told me that, I knew they would be my path. I know my father felt very good with Audi at the Dakar Rally; he has a very good relationship with them. He would have liked me to join them, but I hope he will forgive me for not choosing them. I also want to prove to him that I made the right decision! When I got into their car for the first time last year, I immediately felt that they were full of enthusiasm, motivation, and that they wanted to get back to the top of the pack.” "Also, the car was handling well, our test this year went very well, the developments are working. I don't know if all this will be enough, how far we will be from the leading pack, but I hope we will continue to improve as a team, and that one day we will become competitive," Carlos Sainz said optimistically.
