George Russell always believed that there was the best driver in the world on the other side of the Mercedes pits, and that if he could prove it, he could one day become world champion.
Now Russell is here, and he wants to make that promise his own. For the past two seasons, he's consistently beaten Lewis Hamilton within the team, so theoretically, all he'd need is competitive technology to complete his mission:
“I’m fully aware of my role as the team’s most experienced driver. In 2025, many talented young drivers will arrive in Formula 1, and that’s when you realize that – although you’re not old yet – you’re no longer young. My career has entered a new chapter; having completed the first stage, I’m moving on to the next. When Lewis Hamilton started winning dozens of world championship titles, he was already older than me, and now it’s my turn to follow in his footsteps. I feel I’m progressing in the right direction; I’m ready to play the role I’ve been assigned. The main thing is to be as fast as possible, and I feel that way,” said George Russell, speaking about his goals.
