Honda left Formula 1 without actually leaving, and soon it will launch a new factory project, this time with Aston Martin Racing. So, of course, they will have a say in the choice of drivers for their cars...
Koji Watanabe, head of Honda Racing Corporation, confirmed this and also hinted at who the candidates might be:
"There are more and more drivers, but the number of seats is limited. As a factory team, we will continue to play an important role and influence which drivers will be able to drive our car in our joint project with Aston Martin. Whoever our driver is, we are planning for the long term with him. We have candidates, and we know them both very well.
"The team will have the final say, but the basic setup remains the same as at Red Bull now. We will have a significant influence on the key issues. I would also like to emphasize that it is a great pleasure for us to be working with Adrian Newey again, we will do everything to be competitive," said the manager, who knows both of them very well (meaning Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda).
