If it weren't for Michael Schumacher, no one in the world would probably know where Kerpen is located. But Schumacher is here, has been here, and we hope he'll be here again—this should only be understood by the municipality, which refuses to grant him the title of honorary citizen.
The problem is not new; both professionals and fans have long been trying to obtain this recognition for the seven-time world champion through various means of pressure. In vain... Local politics has once again taken a stand in a way that could not be more disgusting:
"There are no honorary distinctions in Kerpen. The introduction of the honorary distinction and the title of associated honorary citizen, as well as its awarding, is entirely the responsibility of the municipal council," said Mayor Dieter Spürck.
"On March 19, 2024, the city unanimously decided to postpone the issue of Michael Schumacher's induction as an honorary citizen. The groups and non-group representatives must first vote among themselves on the introduction of such a title. Since then, no requests have been received on this subject," explained the "first" man from Kerpen, whose colleagues added comments such as "this currently makes no sense" and "where does honorary citizenship begin and where does it end?"

Let's not comment on all this, you already know our opinion.
