It's the end of Mick Schumacher's Formula 1 dreams, as the young driver has now officially cut almost all ties with the Mercedes team, his last refuge.
The young German has practically declared that his F1 dreams are over. From the end of the year, he will no longer even take on the role of reserve driver within the team, and is now considering his career exclusively in the WEC (World Endurance Championship):
“I am very grateful to Toto Wolff and the entire Mercedes-AMG Petronas family for welcoming me these past two years. I was able to gain insight into the team's work. Without a doubt, I have become a much more experienced driver thanks to this opportunity, I have better understood the engineering aspect of racing, but it has been a difficult and painful time for me. It is a bad feeling just to look at these cars and not be able to race in them, it is difficult to digest, so I had to act. In the future, I want to focus 100% solely on racing, and I want to fully commit to the sporting aspect of motor racing. As a driver, your goal is to be constantly on the track and prove your worth, because we are all looking for that feeling,” explained Mick Schumacher, who is heading to Alpine, giving an insight into the reasons for his decision, for whom the arrival of General Motors in 2026 could represent a ray of hope.
Or maybe not…
