Many are dissatisfied with the performance of FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem. Members of the organization are tense, drivers are nervous, and even ordinary fans feel the direction the sport is heading is not right.
In December, elections will be held within the motorsport federation, and it now seems very likely that, in addition to the discontent, Sulayem will have another strong challenger.
It was his idea to punish drivers for swearing, one of the most childish actions the sport has ever seen, and it has even been reinforced for 2025. Then there is the rape of the Monaco Grand Prix with additional stops, to mention just the tip of the iceberg, not to mention the fact that a good number of valuable professionals have left the federation due to the dictatorial behavior of the sporting leader. More and more people believe that the FIA is no longer "a free organization," which raises serious questions.
According to some media reports, Susie Wolff is seriously considering running for president. Furthermore, Toto Wolff's wife has a personal injury and a connection to Sulayem, as the latter has (or is said to have) investigated the Wolff couple for a conflict of interest in 2023. The affair caused such an uproar that the FIA's leading man quickly backtracked, but the thorn in the side's side certainly remains. Sulayem has so far only responded by saying he would be happy to have a female competitor in the elections.
We will then see how sincere this joy is...
