Do we still remember those days when McLaren relied on Lando Norris and was proud of it? Well, that's ancient history, new winds have been blowing since then.
Johnny Herbert is well known for his sharp tongue, but there's no denying that his words still carry considerable weight. As is the case now, in the case of Oscar Piastri:
“I think his mental toughness, balance, pace, and tactics are excellent this season. What’s more, everyone can see and hear the stoic calm with which he drives, the resourcefulness with which he communicates and handles different situations. We see in Piastri something that is necessary to win the championship. Mentally, he’s exactly on the same level as Max Verstappen!”
On the other hand, Lando Norris... Unfortunately, he makes a lot of mistakes. A perfect example is his recent accident during qualifying in Saudi Arabia. Sure, you could say he was unlucky, but when someone makes a mistake at that speed, that's the end. Is the pressure on him? Yes, but all drivers are under enormous pressure, that's Formula 1! Some handle it better than others... Mistakes made by Norris can damage the team's hopes of winning titles in the long run, while Oscar Piastri has shown he's capable of outperforming even Max Verstappen. In every sense of the word. That's why I think it's time to say that Oscar should be McLaren's number one driver!
