Lewis Hamilton refuses to believe he lost control due to driver error on the first lap of the United States Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion blames his retirement on a technical issue.
After the race, Hamilton spoke out forcefully and demanded a thorough review from his team. Not only had the developments failed, but the car was in even worse condition than before the four-week break:
“During the first free practice session, there was already a similar scene where I lost control in Turn 3. It’s extremely rare; I’ve never found myself in this situation on this track. You could see that George Russell also had difficulties with it on Saturday, but he went back to an older specification, so the problem could be with the new development package. The car bounces constantly, so if I didn’t lose control in Turn 3, it would have happened in another corner or at another time. There was something wrong with the car; I suffered throughout the weekend. I’ve never found myself in this situation in a race in my life. It wasn’t a lack of concentration, but because the technique isn’t right. It’s disappointing, but that’s how it is. I prefer to focus on the fact that I can get behind the wheel again on Friday,” Hamilton said sadly.
