United States Grand Prix, qualifying: Norris on POLE!

Grand Prix des États-Unis, qualifications : Norris en POLE !

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

Things moved quickly in Austin, as after the sprint race, qualifying for the United States Grand Prix took place a few hours later, and Lando Norris won.

In Q1, the trio of Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and Sergio Perez dominated the field on the first flying lap. However, a few minutes later, Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly, and Carlos Sainz took the lead, and ultimately, Verstappen, Leclerc, and the returning Liam Lawson finished in the top three of Q1. Among those eliminated, to everyone's surprise, were Lewis Hamilton, the two Williams cars, and the Alfa Romeo Stake cars.

In Q2, Norris, Verstappen, and Piastri led the way, and ultimately, Verstappen, Sainz, and Norris qualified in the top three. As the track conditions improved steadily, the battle intensified, and at this point, the qualifying session for the United States Grand Prix seemed like a three-way battle. However, for the two VISA RB drivers, Lance Stroll, Esteban Ocon, and Nico Hülkenberg, there was no more to come; they were eliminated from the battles ahead.

After that, the decisive Q3 could begin, and before that, it was almost impossible to guess who would win! So, at the end of the first attempts, the classification was Norris, Verstappen, Sainz, but the gap between the leading duo was almost incomprehensible. Verstappen then started his final fast lap in sensational fashion, but he was unable to convert his pace into a result, as qualifying was "interrupted" due to George Russell's accident.

All this meant that Lando Norris had secured pole position ahead of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz!
