Many people make a dismissive gesture when Fernando Alonso's name is mentioned. This is not the case for former F1 driver Karun Chandhok, who believes that with the arrival of Adrian Newey, Alonso could easily become world champion at 45.
According to Chandhok, the situation is very similar to Newey's arrival at Red Bull Racing, which was then in the midfield. At the time, Formula 1 was also about to undergo significant rule changes, which leads Chandhok to conclude that, just like RB, Aston Martin could also be extremely strong:
"In 2007 and 2008, they were mainly preparing to strengthen their structure and cope with the big changes of 2009, and although Brawn really surprised them with the double diffuser, by the second half of that season they were already the best. We all know what happened: from 2010 to 2013, they won every world championship title, dominating the speed circus for four years. I think something similar is happening at Aston Martin right now, and if they manage to do a sufficiently successful job by 2025, they could experience explosive growth with the new regulations in 2026.
"It would be an incredible story if Fernando won his third world championship title at 44-45 years old with a car designed by Adrian Newey. He certainly believes in it too, that's why he's still competing!" - mused the Indian expert.
