Former Scuderia Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger didn't try to lighten the load on his former team. Quite the opposite!
According to Berger, with the progress made in recent years and the arrival of Lewis Hamilton, everything is in place this year for Ferrari to finally emerge from its shadow. The Austrian believes this will be the year it happens:
“This season, I would bet all my money on Ferrari. I can't say whether Lewis Hamilton or Charles Leclerc will be the world champion, nor whether they will win among the drivers' or constructors' races—but they will win. They will win the title! In terms of engine and chassis, they are extremely strong, probably one of, if not the, strongest driver duo of all time. Moreover, with Hamilton, an exceptional level of motivation has arrived at Maranello, which is rare. He needed new stimuli, and I think he will get it perfectly at Ferrari.”
At Mercedes, he was only able to taste victory from time to time, and now he finds himself in an environment where everyone is hungry for success. I'm sure he'll give his best, but I'm afraid he'll have a lot of trouble competing with Leclerc's speed. What could help him a lot is his friendship with Frederic Vasseur. I think Hamilton is not only a driver, but also a leader who can inspire and push the whole team to victory! - said Gerhard Berger, explaining why he considers the Italians the strongest candidates for 2025.
