Bahrain, closing day: Russell in the lead

Bahreïn, jour de clôture : Russell en tête

Tóth Krisztián Márk |

The F1 teams have had some interesting and revealing days, from which it is very difficult to draw any rational conclusions from the Bahrain tests.

The final day brought yet more interesting events, especially regarding the weather, as this time, much milder and warmer conditions awaited the teams. There was no shortage of other events, as Lance Stroll missed the first few hours due to illness, a glass panel collapsed near the starting positions, and then a bus entering the track caused a bizarre red flag phase. The fastest lap of the morning was set by Charles Leclerc, followed by Andrea Kimi Antonelli, and Lando Norris also managed to make it onto the imaginary podium.

In the afternoon, the focus was on long runs, but Max Verstappen took the lead and held on until the final ten minutes of the closing session. George Russell then arrived, eventually beating that lap time. Strangely enough, the fastest time of the three days wasn't this one, but Carlos Sainz's result from yesterday's session. Different mixes, different tactics, performance concealment—that's all that's certain, along with McLaren's development and Williams' progress. Predicting the rest is impossible.
