Alonso, at 44, doesn't give the slightest impression of wanting to hang up his gloves. He's asked almost every weekend: how long will he stay? His answer is always the same: a long time, because he's committed.
Alonso could even be on the track at 50, which would already be a unique record in modern Formula 1:
“When I turn 50? I don't know what's going to happen and how it's going to work out, so I'm leaving all the doors open. This year I really wanted to race, and next year I also want to be on the grid because of the regulation change. I want to test myself in 2026, and I wanted to wait for Honda to arrive. Adrian Newey's arrival added a huge plus to all of that, and it made the contract extension very attractive.
I'll always be willing to help my team, whatever role they need. If they want me behind the wheel, then I'll be there, regardless of age! If I feel motivated and fast enough, then there are no barriers, otherwise I'll be the first to raise my hand and say it's over!
It bothers me a little that Sunday's results aren't the same as before, but that doesn't affect my motivation and my thirst for success. On the contrary! I'm calm and determined, because this is a transition period, from which we can learn a lot. We are now preparing to be ready one day to present ourselves with dignity, when we have a car capable of winning the championship. And that time will come, when the team is ready, then I will be here,” Fernando Alonso said calmly.
