After the Mexican Grand Prix, many wondered whether Carlos Sainz would really be fired at the end of the season. He was indeed fired, and Lewis Hamilton took his place, but Sainz handled it all professionally and with his head held high.
And he embellishes his departure with victories. In fact, he would like to leave Scuderia Ferrari with a constructors' world championship title:
“It’s been a very strange and trying year for me. It started badly, we weren’t really competitive, the development was difficult, and then suddenly we managed to get to where we wanted to be. We suddenly became contenders for victory, but Charles Leclerc managed to take advantage of those opportunities, while I would have really wanted to win too. I didn’t want to leave Scuderia Ferrari without a victory. At the beginning of the year, it would have been easy to lose my motivation, my desire for all this. But luckily, a three-week break came along at that time, which allowed me to recharge my batteries and become determined again. I managed to recharge for the last five or six races, I improved my driving, I can now trust the car more, and I’m proud of how I handled it. Now I’m solely motivated by the desire to win the Constructors’ Championship. That would be a perfect start for me!” – said the Spanish star.
